South Texas College of Law Houston’s Career Resource Center hosted 50 employers for its early session fall recruitment program the first week of August. Employers conducted on-campus interviews of law students or participated in resume collection.

The application process yielded nearly 1,500 individual candidate applications, resulting in 424 unique on-campus interviews. Registration for the September interview session (phase I of the Fall Recruitment program) is underway, and interested employers can register here: https://www.stcl.edu/registration/oci-phase-i-registration/

Megan Mitchell ’20, who earned an undergraduate degree in biological engineering, joined Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P.’s intellectual property group as an associate in 2021. She returned to the STCL Houston campus last week to conduct interviews for her firm “to give back to an institution that has given so much to me.”

Mitchell’s colleague, Jennifer Spencer, was impressed that several of the STCL Houston students had judicial experience, could discuss substantive legal issues, and could describe how their experiences connect to their interest in becoming litigators.

Javier Gonzalez ’21, litigation association with Jackson Walker, went through the on-campus interview (OCI) process at South Texas Law. “Coming back to interview students is definitely less stressful than being interviewed, and it’s cool to see the wonderful campus changes like the student lounge.”

Gabriela Barake of Jackson Walker joined Gonzalez for on-campus interviews. She noted that STCL Houston alumni who have joined their firm are “phenomenal advocates, very well prepared for actual legal practice, and socially adept. They are well-rounded — and they just like to work.”
