Recruitment Avenues

South Texas College of Law Houston (STCLH) proudly partners with a wide range of legal employers to support diverse hiring needs for academic-year internships, summer clerkships, and post-graduate permanent positions. Each year, hundreds of employers—including law firms of all sizes, government agencies, corporate legal departments, public interest organizations, and judicial chambers—leverage our On-Campus Interview (OCI), Resume Collection & Direct Application Outreach Programs to connect with a talented, diverse, and practice-ready pool of law students and recent graduates.

Our Recruitment Programs are structured in multiple phases throughout the Fall and Spring to provide flexibility for employers to participate according to their internal hiring schedules. Whether you are seeking to fill summer, part-time, or full-time roles, our team will work with you to identify the most effective phase and format to meet your needs.

Employers may choose to participate in:

Fall/Spring On-Campus Interviews, with full logistical support from the Career Resource Center; or
Fall/Spring Resume Collections: For employers who prefer to manage their own interview scheduling outside of the formal OCI timeline, the CRC offers a Resume Collection option. Employers participating in a Resume Collection will receive application materials from interested candidates and may coordinate interviews independently, either virtually or at their own offices; or
Direct Application Outreach: Employers who wish to promote their internal application process may opt for our direct application outreach service. Through this option, the CRC markets the opportunity to students/alumni via targeted communications distributed at regular intervals throughout the recruitment season. This approach enables employers to retain full control over their hiring platforms and timelines while benefiting from consistent, broad visibility among STCL candidates.

South Texas College of Law Houston (STCLH) invites members of the judiciary to participate in its Judicial Resume Collection Program, an initiative designed to streamline the recruitment of qualified law student interns for the Fall, Spring, and Summer academic terms.

This program allows Judges to efficiently access application materials from interested STCLH students, who submit their credentials for consideration to specific participating chambers. Internship placements may be structured as paid, unpaid, or for academic credit, depending on the needs of the court and the student.

By participating, Judges may identify candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in public service and a commitment to the study and practice of law, while contributing to the professional development of future attorneys.

Our Recruiting Mini-Session program offers a flexible, ad-hoc recruitment option tailored for legal employers with immediate or off-cycle hiring needs. This program is ideal for employers whose recruitment timelines fall outside our standard fall and spring sessions.

Modeled after our On-Campus Interview (OCI) process, the program enables employers to establish application requirements and employment credentials, ensuring complete control over candidate selection. Meanwhile, the Career Resource Center (CRC) manages the promotion, collection, and organization of application materials for a streamlined and efficient experience.

Hosted annually by South Texas College of Law Houston, the Government and Public Interest Table Talk (GPITT) is a signature recruitment event that offers government agencies and public interest organizations the opportunity to connect directly with our talented and service-minded law students.

This informal, fair-style event allows employers to:

Introduce their organization and mission
Share information about internship and post-graduate opportunities
Collect resumes from interested candidates
Engage in meaningful conversations with students exploring careers in public service

GPITT provides a valuable platform to raise your organization’s visibility among students while building a pipeline of qualified applicants who are passionate about serving the public good.

Symplicity is the online job board available to South Texas College of Law Houston students and alumni. All employers have the ability to register on Symplicity and post open positions, or you can simply fill out the job posting form and we will post the position for you.

To Register:

Simply go to the following Symplicity Employer Login page and click on the “Register” tab.
Fill in the required information and submit.
That’s it! Your application should be approved within two business days. You will receive an email which will include instructions and your private password. Note: Save time in the future by saving this “bookmark” to your browser.

If, after submitting your registration, you receive the message The email address you entered already exists in the system, you were already entered into Symplicity. You simply need to click the forget password tab and enter your email address. You will be emailed a new password immediately that will enable you to access the system when you go to the Symplicity link.
If you already have a profile listed with another law school that uses Symplicity, you may use the “autofill” feature to copy that information to our system.

To Post a Job:

Once you receive an email approving your account, return to the Symplicity Employer login page.
Select the “Sign In” tab at the top of the page and enter your email address and password.
Now click the “Jobs” tab at the top of the page. This will take you to the “Jobs Postings” page.
Click the box labeled “Add New” and select an option for receiving submissions. Please note that employers have the option to collect materials directly to their Symplicity account by selecting “Accumulate Online.”
Your registration is complete. Fill out the required information, as appropriate, and click “Submit.”
We will then review and approve your job listing, usually within one business day.

Helpful Hints:

Length of Posting: By default, the position you have posted will remain active in South Texas College of Law Houston’s Job Bank for 30 days. To have your listing remain in our Job Bank for a different amount of time, simply specify the expiration date in the drop-box provided in the job listing page.

Deactivation: If at anytime you wish to deactivate your listing, simply return to your job listings page and click delete at the top of the page. This will delete only the posted job. Your account remains active and available to you for future job listings.

Collecting Resumes Online: If you chose to accumulate applicants’ submissions online, you can easily create a single, downloadable packet of all the submitted materials by clicking the “Generate Book” option. You will then have a single PDF document file for download.

Using this system, you can ensure that your job listings are posted on a timely basis and exactly in the way that you would like to see them posted. You have the power to post, modify, update and delete listings at your convenience.

Guidelines and Policies:
Standard 305 of the American Bar Association states: A student may not work in excess of 20 hours per week while attending law school on a full time basis. Students are required to report the number of hours worked when registering for class. Employers should inquire as to full-time or part-time status on each student applicant and schedule work hours accordingly.

The use of Westlaw and Lexis is limited to educational purposes directly related to law school coursework. Any other use, including any use in connection with employment, is prohibited. Students could be subject to disciplinary actions for violation of this policy.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Guidelines:
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a federal law that governs the minimum wage, youth employment, overtime pay and record-keeping for private businesses and state and federal employees. Compliance by employers with the FLSA is mandated by the federal government. Noncompliance with FLSA can result in hefty fines and payment of back wages due for up to three years. The Department of Labor has recently issued guidelines for employers in the private sector providing unpaid internships to assist them in determining whether the internships meet FLSA requirements. The requirements do not apply to government and public interest/service employers hiring volunteer/unpaid interns.

Information Sessions

Employers are welcome to host information sessions as part of their recruitment strategy—either prior to or in conjunction with formal application processes. These sessions offer an excellent opportunity to:

Tabling Events

Looking for a simple and effective way to connect with students in a high-traffic setting? Tabling events provide employers with the opportunity to host an informal presence on campus—whether in the main atrium, student lounge, or another central location—to share information about your organization, answer questions, and promote available opportunities.

Tabling is a great option if you’re looking to:

Increase brand visibility among STCL Houston students
Promote upcoming deadlines, events, or application opportunities
Build early awareness and interest in your organization
