Welcome from the Interim President and Dean
I am honored to be serving as the interim president and dean of South Texas College of Law Houston, which has educated distinguished members of the bar for more than a century. Founded by leaders of Houston’s legal community in 1923 to serve the needs of working professionals, we now attract students from across the nation who want to become part of this law school’s welcoming community and commitment to excellence.
As our search committee prepares to launch a national search for the next president and dean, I enthusiastically embrace the challenge of making sure that our institution continues to perform at the highest level. South Texas College of Law Houston has a tradition of equipping students to practice law. They become public defenders, State Supreme Court Justices, prosecutors, litigators at prestigious firms, professors, solo practitioners, and business leaders. That tradition will continue, uninterrupted by the change in leadership.
I start this exciting endeavor well prepared. I have been a faculty member since 1988, and I have served in various positions of leadership. Former President and Dean Michael Barry and I have worked closely together over the last several months to assure a smooth handoff. I have been listening carefully to the many faculty and staff members who have shared their thoughts and suggestions with me, and I have many ideas about the priorities we need to set and the work before us. I am eager to begin the fall semester and to greet the new cohort of aspiring attorneys that have chosen to attend South Texas College of Law Houston.
Please visit the campus in person or virtually to experience what makes STCL Houston special. You should also look at the stories posted on our website that highlight our commitment to justice, our engaged student population, and our respected and accomplished faculty.
I am looking forward to a productive and engaging year. My overall goal is to hand off a healthy and high-functioning law school to the next president and dean, one which carries forward the tradition of providing an excellent education to our students and preparing them to serve the legal needs of their clients.
