Why did you choose to attend South Texas College of Law Houston?

As a Houston native already working in the legal field, staying local for law school was important to me — but what truly sealed my decision was the sense of belonging I felt at STCL Houston. During one of the accepted student receptions, the dean emphasized that yes, the law school accepted us, but that we had to choose STCL Houston, too. Hearing that, along with his remarks about the strength of the alumni network, reassured me this is a place that would support me through one of the most challenging times of my life.

Where are you working this summer and what other legal opportunities have you participated in?

I will be working at Horne Rota Moos for the first half and Myers Doyle for the second half. I secured the former through a series of on-campus interviews, and the latter through a combination of cold-calling and networking with a student who worked there.

How did the Career Resource Center (CRC) help you successfully navigate the recruitment process?

Where do I start? The CRC team has been instrumental in the recruitment process, from my first year to now. Marie has been an extraordinary resource, reviewing materials, giving advice, and assisting in finding roles directly aligned with my interests. The team has been extremely supportive throughout my time there.

What are your career goals for the future?

I would like to practice commercial litigation and transactions. In a perfect world, I’d be practicing within the health care industry.

What advice would you give future law students going through recruitment?

Prepare your materials and meet with your career resource counselor early so you can focus on finals while on-campus interviews are taking place. Also, start networking as soon as possible!

Which professors have most influenced you and your career path?

One of my Legal Research and Writing instructors, Professor Rempell, greatly influenced how I navigate any research and writing assignments with employers. Additionally, he’s also been a great resource for all things health law, an area I’m very interested in.

What student organizations have you been involved with?

I am currently the president of both the Health Law Society and Cougar Law Society, among others. I’ve also previously been involved with the Advocacy Program and competed in moot court.

What do you do for fun, when not at the law school?

I’m always starting a new creative hobby. Currently, I’m obsessed with pottery!

How has the law school community supported your growth?

The willingness of professors to make time to sit with you and ensure your understanding of course content has been an important source of support for me.
