Caroline Meador, 1L

Why did you choose to attend South Texas Law?
I wanted to eventually practice in Texas, and I grew up in Houston. After visiting the campus, I was incredibly impressed with the faculty and the environment. Every student I met spoke so highly of their experience, which made me confident I would love it here, too.

What legal opportunities are you participating in?
I will be spending the first half of my summer at Kirkland & Ellis and the second half serving as a judicial intern for Judge Drew B. Tipton of the United States District Court. Next year, I will be with Kirkland & Ellis for the full summer!

How did that opportunity open up for you?

I secured my position at Kirkland & Ellis through early networking and a strong commitment to my academic performance. I took advantage of opportunities to connect with Kirkland attorneys on campus through panels and Fall First Look. After those events, I reached out to STCL Houston alumni to learn more about their experiences transitioning from South Texas Law to Kirkland. The alumni I met were consistently supportive, helpful, and encouraging.

I obtained my judicial internship with the guidance of Professor Josh Blackman, who recognized similarities between my interests and Judge Tipton’s work. I interviewed with Judge Tipton’s law clerks, which allowed me to gain a better understanding of the work I will be doing this summer.

How did the Career Resource Center (CRC) help you successfully navigate the recruitment process?
When I began receiving interview invitations and navigating the 1L recruiting process, the CRC was an invaluable resource. They helped me prepare for interviews, think through potential outcomes, and build confidence. Their encouragement reassured me I was capable of my opportunities. I also attended the panels they hosted to learn about different practice groups and to network with attorneys in those various fields.

What are your career goals for the future?
I hope to build a career as a transactional attorney in Houston. I am interested in gaining unique experiences so I can become a well-rounded and effective attorney.

What advice would you give future law students going through recruitment?
Networking can open doors, but it’s important to trust in your abilities. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but confidence and preparation go a long way when talking with attorneys who have been where you are now.

Who has been influential during your time in law school?
Professor Vukadin will have a lasting impact on me. Writing is extremely personal, even legal writing. Professor Vukadin encouraged me in an area I didn’t necessarily feel strong in. She offers great advice, both personally and professionally, and helps us navigate the changing legal environment through our writing and research.

What student organizations have you been involved with?
I am involved with the Aggie Law Students Association, where I serve as a 1L representative.

How has the law school community supported your growth?
My professors have been incredibly supportive and invested in my development. They bring a wealth of knowledge and perspective, and I have enjoyed learning from their experiences and guidance. Office hours are one of my favorite places to be to build relationships with professors while learning about the class content.

What is something unique about you that doesn’t appear on your resume?
I love to travel. Some of the places I’ve had the opportunity to visit places are Australia, Italy, and Greece.
