The South Texas Law Review published by South Texas College of Law Houston recently received the 2026 Outstanding Law Review Article Award from the Texas Bar Foundation for an article it published by Justice David M. Gunn, Court of Appeals for the First District of Texas.

Entitled “The Original Meaning of the Texas Harmless Error Rule’s Second Prong,” the article appears in the spring 2025 edition of the South Texas Law Review (volume 64, number 3, p. 161; page 13 of pdf).

“This award is a wonderful achievement,” said Amanda Peters, associate dean for faculty and professor of law. “Thank you to all who have helped our students write and publish quality pieces, and to those of you who have published in the South Texas Law Review.”

The achievement was shared by this year’s Editor-in-chief Will Honderich, but he credited it to the 2024-25 Law Review board, which was led by Taylor Lanier.

“This honor reflects the quality of scholarship published by the journal and the rigorous editorial standards maintained throughout the publication process,” Honderich said. “It also is a testament to the guidance, mentorship, and institutional support South Texas Law provides to our board and members, which plays a critical role in the Law Review’s continued success.”

The 2026 honor marks the fourth time an article from the South Texas Law Review has earned this award, with the most recent being just two years ago.

The Outstanding Law Review Article Award honors an article published by one of the 10 Texas law schools relating to the legal profession, the practice of law, or substantive law as applied to the practice of law; its regulation, discipline, availability; its improvement or advancement; its future or past.
