South Texas College of Law Houston recently was named to The Princeton Review’s “Best Law Schools 2024” list.

Students surveyed by The Princeton Review rated the law school high for its accomplished, accessible faculty; strong advocacy programs; and diverse, supportive community of full-time and part-time students.

“Students at this college are extremely competitive,” one student noted. However, the survey also indicated, “The student body is very friendly; the students help each other out and want to see each other succeed.”

While the law schools named to the list were not ranked, ratings for specific aspects of the school were compiled from more than 60 data points, including enrollment data taken from reports and student survey results.

Surveyed students described the various ways the law school arms students with the tools they need to succeed. One student noted, “The school has great advocacy programs” and the mock trial program is considered “one of the best in the nation.”

Students rated professors high at South Texas Law for their accessibility. They gave high marks to the overall academic experience as well.

Regarding academics, the surveyed students noted that South Texas Law’s curriculum “provides a well-reasoned balance between theoretical and practical education,” emphasizing critical thinking skills as well as hands-on applications. Through discussion, Socratic questioning, and assignments, “the professors truly try to get you to start thinking like a lawyer from day one. They ask you the right questions to lead you down the path to the answer on your own, without giving you the answer.”

Students noted, “From Amnesty International to the Environmental Law Society, the student body maintains a range of clubs and organizations that are either fun, competitive, or fun and competitive.”

South Texas Law, a private, independent law school founded in 1923, has a vibrant student body, and the campus is located downtown in the nation’s most diverse city.

“One of the greatest strengths of this school is the diversity of experience in its student body” said one student who responded to the survey. “You have people from many different walks of life and careers. People with families. Single people. People in their 40s and 50s. People in their 20s.”

Students praised the strong career opportunities for graduates of the law school. “South Texas is well respected in the Houston community,” and “the networking availability is unparalleled” in the region.
