Exploring Prague: The Gardens Below Prague Castle
Tucked along the slopes beneath the castle, we discovered interconnected gardens that felt like a hidden oasis in the heart of the city. Each garden was uniquely designed, featuring ornate staircases, charming pavilions, and peaceful terraces that overlooked the rooftops of Prague. As we wandered through each section, we were greeted with different blooms and fragrances, each garden smelling like a floral boutique, but somehow more magical. The real reward came at the top: a breathtaking panoramic view of Prague.

Touring the Klementinum
Today, we stepped into what might be the most beautiful library in the world, located just inside a complex of historic buildings known as the Klementinum. Originally established by the Jesuits as a college, the site later became home to some of Europe’s greatest minds, including Einstein, who lectured here, and Mozart, who performed within its historic walls. On the second floor, we encountered the Baroque library, a space so carefully preserved that no one is allowed to enter. We viewed it from the entrance, and it truly took our breath away. The craftsmanship and hand-painted ceiling created a space so awe-inspiring, it left us speechless. At the very top, we were rewarded with yet another unforgettable sight: panoramic views of Prague, glowing in the afternoon sun.

A private tour and briefing at the U.S. Embassy in Prague
As part of our study abroad experience, we had the rare opportunity to visit the U.S. Embassy in Prague, a truly unforgettable highlight of our week. We were welcomed by a Fellow Texan and U.S. Foreign Service Officer, who gave us an in-depth look into the mission and daily responsibilities of the Embassy and the Consulate, helping us understand the key distinctions between the two and how they serve American citizens and promote U.S. interests abroad. Following the briefing, our host led us on a private tour of the embassy grounds. The tour concluded with one of the embassy’s most stunning features, its expansive garden, which offered yet another breathtaking panoramic view of Prague. It was indeed special, as the U.S. Embassy is not open to tourists. For the third day in a row, we found ourselves standing above the city, taking in views that few visitors ever get to see.

A weekend trip to Vienna
After our class field trip, we set off for Vienna. Over the next two days, we explored Vienna’s vibrant culture through its cuisine, architecture, and art. We sampled traditional Viennese dishes such as schnitzel and apple strudels, sipped local Austrian beer, and set out to take in the sights of a city that feels like a living museum. From baroque churches to gothic cathedrals, every street revealed something extraordinary. One of the most breathtaking highlights was the Belvedere Palace, where the formal gardens alone looked like they belonged in a painting. Inside the palace, we toured the Belvedere Museum, home to masterworks including Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss, a true once-in-a-lifetime experience to witness in person. From catacombs and chapels to museums and monuments, Vienna’s grandeur and grace captivated us. It’s a city that sings with history, beauty, and soul.
