A trip to Norwich, England to learn about the University of East Anglia’s law school

Our first evening

The town of Norwich was nothing short of breathtaking, steeped in history, yet warm and inviting. Though the rain welcomed us first, it didn’t dampen the beauty of the cobbled streets, medieval architecture, or the cozy atmosphere that made the city feel like home to us. We were warmly greeted by two wonderful UEA staff members who guided us through the town and treated us to dinner. As we wandered through the rain-soaked streets, we stumbled upon one of England’s most iconic sights: a bright red telephone booth.

A storybook setting

We joined Professor Lewinbuk and Dr. Sharon Schweitzer, a member of South Texas Law’s board of directors, for a guided tour of the University of East Anglia. To say we were impressed would be an understatement. The campus is nestled within some of the most stunning natural scenery we’ve encountered, complete with vibrant gardens, wooded pathways, and a serene lake perfect for a reflective walk. To top it off, rabbits hopped across the lawns, making the experience feel straight out of a storybook. We learned that UEA is deeply committed to sustainability and eco-conscious living, from rentable bikes and scooters stationed across campus, to energy-efficient buildings and community green initiatives.

Art on campus!

One of the most memorable stops was the Sainsbury Centre, an on-campus museum featuring an impressive collection of art that is free to students and visitors. Not only was the artwork captivating, but we were amazed to learn that this very building served as Avengers Headquarters in the Marvel films! UEA’s campus was absolutely beautiful.

And now, the academic part…

After our tour of the breathtaking campus, we made our way to the University of East Anglia Law School, a true hidden gem nestled in lush greenery. We were welcomed by faculty and staff, who introduced us to the LLM program available to STCL students, including scholarship opportunities and areas of specialization. We participated in a series of mock classes led by UEA professors, giving us a firsthand glimpse into the engaging and globally relevant curriculum. We also learned about UEA’s moot court team, its innovative intellectual property coursework, and the impactful work being done through its legal clinics. These clinics are highly respected, so much so that their work in the criminal justice space has been featured in news outlets and documentaries for its impact and success. More than just a beautiful law school, UEA offered a sense of community and purpose. It truly felt like a home away from home and left us inspired by the possibility of returning as future LLM students!

Teatime

After a morning spent touring the historic streets of Norwich and learning more about the city’s rich past, we were treated to one of England’s most beloved traditions: afternoon tea. Hosted in a stunning Georgian-style home, this experience gave us the chance to slow down, sip, and savor. From savory bites to sugary treats, not a single item disappointed. It was a truly quintessential English experience, and one that made us feel both welcomed and inspired. Sharing this moment with the UEA team gave us a deeper appreciation for the culture and hospitality that makes this program so special.

London!

After an amazing weekend in Norwich, we spent our free day making the most of everything London has to offer, and we didn’t waste a minute! We caught the 8 a.m. train from Norwich and hit the ground running, starting with a hearty traditional English breakfast. Fueled and ready to explore, we hopped aboard one of London’s iconic red double-decker buses, taking advantage of the hop-on, hop-off tour to see as much as possible.

We visited the Tower of London, where we learned more about Queen Anne Boleyn and admired the Crown Jewels, strolled by Buckingham Palace, and caught glimpses of other London landmarks like the London Bridge, the London Eye, and Big Ben. Along the way, we sampled more English cuisine, snapped dozens of photos, and soaked in the incredible energy of the city. From history to food to architecture, London gave us the perfect ending to our unforgettable time in England. We left with full hearts, full stomachs, and so many memories to carry back with us to Prague.
