Brigette Dechant, a third-year South Texas law student and national-champion advocate who will graduate magna cum laude May 21, spent seven years building a career before realizing she needed law school to advance further.
I am a 2L here at South Texas College of Law Houston. I’ve been very involved with the Student Bar Association, I’m the vice president-elect for 2022-23 school year. I served as a freshman senator for STCL Houston during my first year. I am also involved with the school’s Advocacy Program as a member of the moot court team.

I am a 2L here at South Texas College of Law Houston, and I’m expecting to graduate in May 2023. During my time here, I’ve been active with the Student Bar Association, Phi Delta Phi, CURRENTS: Journal of International Economic Law and the mentorship program.
I was born in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Houston, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with a minor in law, values and policy.

Kyle Vento ’21, an alumnus of the Transactional Practice program, joined Transocean’s in-house practice group as corporate counsel after graduation.
While working through the challenges of a personal music licensing project, Vento became interested in contracts, intellectual property and entertainment law. Inspired to pursue a legal career, Vento left his job as an audio engineer in New York City and moved back to Houston. He took a clerkship at a small intellectual property law office, assisting with copyright and trademark work, and decided to apply to law school with the goal of becoming a deal lawyer of some sort.
Gaspar Gonzalez ’21 is an associate attorney for Wilson Cribbs + Goren — one of the largest real estate practice firms in Houston — and the youngest member of STCL Houston’s Transactional Practice Advisory Board.
As a second-career student, Gonzalez chose to pursue law after a family emergency made him realize he needed more flexibility than his first career in education provided. He left his position of five years as a band director and applied to law school.

During the 8th Annual Scholarship Gala, hosted April 8 by the Hispanic Law Students Association (HLSA) and the Latinx Law Students Association (LLSA) of the three Houston law schools, numerous South Texas College of Law Houston students were awarded scholarships.
The event was co-hosted by the HLSA and LLSA at STCL Houston, Thurgood Marshall School of Law and the University of Houston Law Center. Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia was the keynote speaker, and STCL alumnus and supporter Benny Agosto, Jr. ’95 spoke and presented the HLSA scholarships to the South Texas students.
