Why did you choose to attend South Texas College of Law Houston?

South Texas Law represents a strong family legacy for me. My father Michael Saegert ’97, my cousin Chris Malon 3L, my aunt Yalila Guerrero ’93, and my uncle Luis Midence ’03 all attended (or are still attending) STCL Houston. Seeing the strong legal education that South Texas gave them inspired me to follow in their footsteps.

Where are you working this summer and what other legal opportunities have you participated in?

This summer, I’m excited to work at Hunton Andrews Kurth’s Houston office. I applied to the firm prior to the start of the spring semester.

How did the Career Resource Center (CRC) help you successfully navigate the recruitment process?

The CRC team was incredibly helpful throughout the recruitment process, assisting me with my resume, refining my cover letters, and offering strategic guidance every step of the way. They were exceptionally kind and always available to answer any questions I had.

What are your career goals for the future?

My long-term goal is to become a prominent, successful attorney serving the Houston area, and I am committed to becoming the best attorney I can be.

What advice would you give future law students going through recruitment?

Take full advantage of the resources available at the law school. The CRC team is approachable, supportive, and truly invested in students’ success.

Which professors have most influenced you and your career path?

Professor Haley Palfreyman Jankowski has had a major impact on my law school experience. Her teaching helped me quickly learn how to prepare effectively for class, and her mentorship has played a key role in my academic and professional development.

What student organizations have you been involved with?
I’m currently a member of the South Texas Law Review and am a Langdell Scholar for Civil Procedure II.

What do you do for fun, when not at the law school?

My favorite hobby is golf, and when I’m not studying, I’m usually out playing or hitting balls at the range. I’m also really into college football, especially keeping up with recruiting.

How has the South Texas Law community supported your growth?

The South Texas Law community is incredible. My classmates always push each other to perform at their best. I’ve built strong friendships with them over the years, and their encouragement and support motivate me. The professors are generous with their time, too, and they’ve played a major role in improving both my writing and my legal reasoning skills.
