Why did you choose to attend STCL Houston?
Coming from out of state, I knew I wanted to attend law school in Texas. South Texas College of Law Houston stood out to me immediately because of its close-knit and supportive environment. I also was drawn to the school’s strong emphasis on advocacy and its connections within the Houston legal field.Â
Where are you working this summer?
I will be splitting my time between working in the Harris County Attorney’s Office in the Special and Affirmative Litigation Division and serving as a judicial intern in the chambers of the Hon. Lance G. Long in the 183rd Criminal District Court.
How did you secure that opportunity? Â
I was proactive in networking and in applying early. I initially connected with the Harris County Attorney’s Office at the Government and Public Interest Table Talk hosted by the Career Resource Center (CRC), which allowed me to learn more about their work and express my interest directly. I later applied and was grateful to receive an offer.Â
For my judicial internship, I applied through the Simplicity job portal provided by the CRC and was particularly interested in the opportunity to work with Judge Long, who handles felony criminal proceedings. Because I ultimately hope to pursue a career in criminal law, I am eager to gain firsthand exposure to how those proceedings are handled at the trial court level.
How did the CRC help you successfully navigate the recruitment process?
The Career Respource Center was incredibly helpful in refining my resume and preparing me for interviews. Their feedback made my application materials stronger and more polished, and they also helped me better understand the recruitment timeline, which made the process feel much more manageable.
What are your career goals for the future?
I plan to pursue a career in federal criminal defense, and I am interested in representing clients in complex, high-stakes matters.
What advice would you share with future law students going through recruitment?
Start early, stay extremely organized, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Simply reaching out, following up, and showing genuine interest can go a very long way.
Which professors have influenced you and or your career path the most? Â
My Criminal Law professor, Professor Hogan, has had a particularly strong impact on my interest in criminal law. His approach to teaching and emphasis on real-world application have reinforced my desire to pursue a career in this field.
What student organizations have you been involved with?
I have been actively involved in the Student Bar Association and was recently elected as a mid-law senator. I also currently serve as a section representative, where I act as a liaison between my section and the SBA and assist with event coordination and communication. In this role, I was honored to receive the “Outstanding 1L Representative” award.
How has the South Texas Law community supported your growth?
This community has supported my growth through the relationships I’ve built with classmates, professors, and mentors. Being surrounded by people who are motivated and genuinely invested in one another has made a meaningful difference in both my academic and professional development. My section mates, in particular, have had a significant impact on my experience at STCL Houston.Â
What is something unique about you we can’t learn from your resume?
I run a small photography business, which I started during my undergrad years. It has been a creative outlet for me and has also taught me valuable skills like attention to detail, working with clients, and managing a business while balancing a busy schedule.
