Cara Shaffer
Assistant Professor of Law
Cara Shaffer is an Assistant Professor at South Texas College of Law Houston, where she specializes in prison policy and legal education pedagogy. She originally joined STCL in 2020 as the founding director of the Legal Writing Center.
Before returning to STCL as a faculty member, Professor Shaffer taught legal research and writing at The University of Colorado Law School, where she served as an Assistant Teaching Professor. Her legal practice experience includes both civil litigation and criminal appeals. She has presented nationally on legal writing pedagogy and brings a broad background in teaching writing and oral advocacy. Professor Shaffer coached the University of Texas Undergraduate Mock Trial team for four years.
Outside of work, Professor Shaffer enjoys taking painting classes at Art League Houston and watching films as a devoted cinephile at the historic River Oaks Theater.
