We are pleased to announce that two new assistant professors — Maleaha Brown and Kris Caudle — joined the outstanding South Texas College of Law Houston faculty this fall.
Maleaha Brown teaches family law and professional responsibility courses. Her research examines the intersection of family law, domestic violence, and access to justice.
Prior to teaching, Professor Brown was a family law attorney at legal aid organizations in South Texas and Los Angeles, California. In these roles, she represented low-income survivors of domestic violence in complex family law litigation.
Professor Brown currently chairs the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence. Additionally, she is a council member for the ABA Family Law Section and serves on the editorial board for the section’s scholarly journal, Family Law Quarterly.
She earned her B.A. from Baylor University and her J.D. from Howard University School of Law.
Kris Caudle’s scholarship specializes in K-12 public school law, with an emphasis on the intersection of education administration and the First Amendment’s free speech and religion clauses. His work has been published in the South Carolina Law Review and builds on years of practical experience as a public school teacher and school board attorney.
Prior to entering academia, Professor Caudle practiced education law in North Carolina. He is the former chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Education Section and a frequent presenter on education law topics.
Professor Caudle earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill School of Law, where he was executive editor of the First Amendment Law Review, and his B.A. in history from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. At South Texas Law, he teaches First Amendment and Constitutional law courses.
