Every year on June 19, STCL Houston joins the nation in celebrating Juneteenth, a sacred day of celebration, community, and remembrance for Black Americans.
Juneteenth is celebrated to honor the day in 1865 when enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, although the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed more than two years prior.
Regardless of identity, we can all use Juneteenth as a day to reflect on the resilient, yet triumphant, history of Black Americans, our progress in civil rights, and the unfinished work of racial justice.
Below, we’ve listed some upcoming opportunities to celebrate Juneteenth 2026 and engage with the community in downtown Houston.
Friday, June 19
Juneteenth at HMAAC, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Houston Museum of African American Culture, 4807 Caroline st.
Celebrate Juneteenth with the HMAAC with the opening of the exhibition ‘Bayou City Stewards: America from Our Perspective,’ curated by Robert Hodge and Rachel Simon. This event features small businesses, live music, and an opportunity to browse a curated collection of artwork, books, and more.

Galveston Island Juneteenth Music Festival & Fireworks, 1-10 p.m.
Menard Park, 2222 28th st., Galveston, TX, 77550
Visit Galveston Island, the birthplace of Juneteenth, for this day-long cultural celebration highlighting music styles such as blues, zydeco, soul, and Tejano. This free event includes poetry readings, community engagement, tributes, live performances, and more. Festivities conclude with a fireworks show along the Gulf.
Juneteenth: The Reunion, 4-10 p.m.
Emancipation Park Conservancy, 3018 Emancipation Avenue
Located in the historic Emancipation Park, this celebration will be an opportunity to honor the legacy and spirit of Juneteenth alongside Houston community. Join in for live performances across multiple genres, an inaugural domino tournament, a Kid Zone, local food vendors, and an All-White Affair which invites guests to come dressed in all-white attire.
Juneteenth Night Light Bike Ride, 7-10 p.m.
3409 Emancipation Ave.
Join this one-of-a-kind bike riding event with 3rd Ward Tours. While exploring Houston on LED Bikes, participants will enjoy a music playlist featuring artists who celebrate and uplift Black culture. Riders can choose to rent an LED bike or bring your own. Select destinations include Discovery Green, Midtown, and the Museum District.
Juneteenth Culture Fest, 8:15-10:15 p.m.
Miller Outdoor Theatre, 6000 Hermann Park dr.
Presented by Wells Fargo, this year’s Juneteenth Culture Fest will feature performances by R&B group Maze and singer Chanté Moore. The celebration will include a night filled with classic soul, funk, neo-soul, and R&B music, as well as a pop-up art gallery hosted by Anderson Center for the Arts and the 5th Ward Cultural Arts District.
Saturday, June 20
Juneteenth Picnic & Resource Fair, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Burnett Bayland Community Center, 6026 Chimney Rock Rd.
Join the Houston Black American Democrats (H-BAD) in a family-friendly event that honors the spirit of Juneteenth by connecting community with valuable resources. This celebration will include live music, raffle giveaways, voter registration, health screening, and more.
Rhythms of Liberation: Celebrating the Afro-Mexican Roots of Juneteenth, 3-4:30 p.m.
POST Houston, Z Atrium, 401 Franklin st.
Experience this free interactive community art and music workshop at POST Houston, presented by the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum and ALMAAH. This event explores the deep connections between Afro-Mexican, Black, Indigenous, and Mexican cultures that continue to help shape the Houston community. Led by artists Tina Hernandez, Gabbi Magaña, Deniz Lopez & Adrianna Benavides.
BLCK Market: The Experience – 7th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, 3-9 p.m.
East River, 100 Jensen dr.
Every third Saturday, BLCK Market hosts one of the largest marketplaces for Black-owned brands, creating spaces for small Black businesses and networking with the Houston community. This Saturday, join the fun and celebrate Juneteenth with food, live music, and more than 40 Black-owned vendors.
Sunday, June 21
Galveston Symphony Orchestra Juneteenth: Her Voice, Her Story, 4-6 p.m.

Experience an unforgettable Juneteenth celebration with the GSO this Juneteenth, as they present a concert featuring the complete Zodiac Suite by jazz legend Mary Lou Williams. This concert explores twelve movements dedicated to a musician born in each astrological sign, including noteworthy artists such as Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington. Highlighting genres such as jazz and blues, this performance will be an extraordinary tribute to American music throughout time.
Saturday, June 27
HYLA’s Juneteenth Celebration, Tea Cakes & Tours, 11:30 a.m.

Join the Houston Young Lawyer’s Association Allyship Committee and the Heritage Society for a guided Black history tour of three UNESCO Sites of Memory for their “Routes of Enslaved Peoples’ Project”: 1847 Kellum-Noble House; 1866 Fourth Ward Cottage; and the 1870 Yates House. Enjoy the tradition of teacakes and red punch while learning about the lives of enslaved individuals and their unique stories.
