Why did you choose to attend South Texas Law?
As a participant in South Texas College of Law Houston’s pipeline program, I had the opportunity to experience firsthand the close-knit and supportive community that makes STCL Houston unique. I saw how genuinely invested the professors, staff, and students are in one another’s success. That strong sense of community and commitment to helping students grow made me confident that STCL Houston was the right place for me to pursue my legal education.
What legal opportunities are you participating in?
I will be spending my summer with Serpe Andrews, PLLC, as a 2027 summer associate.
How did that opportunity open up for you?
I secured my job opportunity by participating in the early fall phase of On-Campus Interviews (OCI). Through that event, I explored different employers and was intentional about identifying positions that aligned with my interests and long-term career goals. It also allowed me to narrow my focus and pursue the opportunities that genuinely interested me.
How did the Career Resource Center (CRC) help you successfully navigate the recruitment process?
The CRC was extremely communicative throughout the recruitment process and consistently kept students informed about jobs available through OCI. They provided information about each employer and brief overviews of available positions, which helped me identify opportunities that aligned with my interests and career goals. The CRC also emphasized the importance of starting the job search early and not getting discouraged by rejection. They continually reminded us that there are many opportunities available and that one “no” does not mean the right career opening isn’t still out there.
What advice would you give future law students going through recruitment?
My advice would be to start early, be intentional, and don’t get discouraged by rejection. Take advantage of the support and resources provided by the Career Resource Center, but also lean on professors, alumni, and fellow students for advice and connections. Most importantly, remember there are many opportunities available, and sometimes finding the right one requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to put yourself out there.
Who has been influential to you and your career path?
Professor Shelby Moore has been incredibly encouraging and motivating throughout my time at South Texas College of Law Houston. She has emphasized the importance of building meaningful connections, networking, and putting yourself out there professionally. Her advice has encouraged me to be more intentional about developing relationships and creating opportunities for myself as I pursue my career goals.
What student organizations have you been involved with?
I currently serve as treasurer for the Black Law Students Association and as a mentor for the current cohort of the STCL Houston Pipeline Program.
How has the law school community supported your growth?
The community of current students and alumni has been an incredible resource throughout my law school journey. Everyone is always willing to answer questions, share resources, and offer advice based on their own experiences in similar situations. Whether I am navigating the job search or law school in general, I have found that there is always someone willing to help. Overall, STCL Houston has a very supportive community where people genuinely want to see one another succeed.
What is something unique about you that we can’t learn from your resume?
Something that may not come across on my resume is how much I value building genuine connections with clients. My prior experience working at a law firm showed me that I truly enjoy getting to know clients — understanding their individual circumstances, and learning what matters most to them. I believe that taking the time to understand the person behind the legal issue allows me to better advocate for their needs and provide more thoughtful and effective assistance.
