South Texas College of Law Houston Hosts 2016 Holiday Dinner for Close Friends of the School

The board of directors of South Texas College of Law Houston were pleased to host a holiday celebration and dinner recently for the school’s close friends and loyal donors.

Held at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Houston, the gathering honored those who have faithfully supported the law school and provided contributions of funds and time throughout the years. Specifically, the board thanked members of the school’s Fellows Society, 1923 Society, and the Fred Parks Legacy Society.

These dedicated alumni and donors help to ensure that STCL Houston students have the facilities, scholarships, and programs they need to be fully prepared for meaningful careers upon graduation.

Board Chairman J. Ken Johnson provided the welcome to attendees, followed by a “2016 Year in Review” recap by President and Dean Donald J. Guter. The dean also introduced Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson, who provided an overview of the scholarship established in her late husband’s name by his STCL Houston classmate, Richard Anderson. The James Michael “Mike” Anderson ’82 Scholarship was granted to three students this year, including Joshua Bonin, Clayton Trice, and Brooke Willard.

Devon Anderson then introduced a video profiling the students who received this year’s scholarship in honor of Mike Anderson.

Following the video, Willard addressed the audience to share her gratitude as a scholarship recipient and how those funds will ease her financial burden during law school.

Board member Randy Sorrels ’87 then presented the 1923 Society Awards and recognized the new Spurgeon E. Bell Fellows and Fred Parks Giving Societies members.

Dean Guter provided closing remarks to the gathered alumni and donors and expressed his gratitude for their support of the law school.
