Why did you choose to attend South Texas Law?
I chose South Texas Law because of its strong legal reputation and the flexibility of its part-time online program, which allows me to continue working, build valuable experience, and earn my J.D.
What legal opportunities are you participating in?
I’ll be joining Manuel Diaz Law Firm, PC, as a full-time criminal defense paralegal.
How did that opportunity open up for you?
I secured my opportunities by actively applying, interviewing, networking, and using my prior legal experience to show employers that I’m ready and willing contribute to their firm immediately.
How did the CRC help you successfully navigate the recruitment process?
The Career Resource Center provided guidance and resources that helped me feel more confident and prepared throughout the hiring process, including mock interviews, resume and cover letter support, and guidance on how to effectively reach out to employers.
What are your career goals for the future?
My goal is to become a criminal defense attorney and advocate for those who need it most, all while building a career centered on helping people through difficult circumstances.
What advice would give future law students going through recruitment?
Do not be afraid of change, reach out to employers, and connect with other attorneys. Take advantage of the resources available to you and never underestimate your value or the experience you bring to the table.
Who has been influential to you and your career path?
Professor Breeland and Professor Finegan have influenced me the most. Through Civil Procedure I, Prof. Breeland taught me how to effectively brief and analyze cases while helping me become more confident and prepared for cold calls. Prof. Finegan strengthened my passion for criminal law and helped me see criminal defense as a career path I’d like to pursue.
What is something unique about you that doesn’t appear on your resume?
I strongly believe that everyone deserves a second chance and a new lease on life, regardless of their circumstances. That belief is a big part of why I am passionate about helping people and becoming an attorney.
