South Texas College of Law is pleased to announce it will be hosting an inaugural Energy Law Negotiation Competition February 21-22, 2015.

South Texas College of Law will be hosting the first ever regional Energy Law Negotiation Competition on Saturday, February 21 and Sunday February 22, 2015. This competition will provide an opportunity for law students from around the region to develop their negotiation skills in the exciting field of energy law. Teams will consist of two students and rounds will be one hour and fifteen minutes. Two preliminary rounds will take place on Saturday and the final round will be held on Sunday. Schools will be invited to send one or two teams, depending on the number of registrations received. The registration cost is only $200 per school. The competition will also provide a great opportunity for law students specifically interested in pursuing a career in energy law to network with experienced energy lawyers in Houston, the energy capital of the country. Judges for the competition will be recruited from top energy law firms and energy companies in Houston and there will be a networking reception on Saturday following the 2nd round sponsored by Haynes & Boone, LLP.

The Center for American and International Law’s Institute for Energy Law (IEL) will be hosting its 66th annual Oil and Gas Conference in downtown Houston on February 19-20. IEL member schools may send two students to this conference for free. If your school is not a member school, we may be able to arrange for students to attend all or part of the conference. At a minimum, students are invited to attend the conference luncheon on Friday, February 20th free of charge. This will be an exciting opportunity for students to network with prominent oil and gas attorneys from the region.

For its inaugural year, the competition will be open to regional law schools. For more information about this exciting new competition, please email Debra Berman at or call 713-646-2997.
