South Texas College of Law Hosted Inaugural Energy Law Negotiation Competition February 21-22, 2015.

On February 21, 2015, South Texas College of Law hosted the first ever Energy Law Negotiation Competition. The competition provided an opportunity for law students from around the region to develop their negotiation skills in the exciting field of energy law. Twenty-eight students from eight law schools in the region (LSU, SMU, South Texas College of Law, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Southern, University of Houston, and the University of Oklahoma) competed. Teams consisted of two students and rounds were one hour and fifteen minutes. Two preliminary rounds took take place on Saturday, the 21st and the final round was held on Sunday, the 22nd. The competition also provided a great opportunity for law students specifically interested in pursuing a career in energy law to network with experienced energy lawyers in Houston, the energy capital of the country. Judges for the competition were recruited from top energy law firms and energy companies in Houston and there was a networking reception on Saturday following the 2nd round generously sponsored by Haynes & Boone, LLP.

Registration for the 2016 competition will open in fall 2015. Please continue to check the website for more information. If you have questions, please email Debra Berman at or call 713-646-2998.

Congratulations to the 2015 first place team, Camille Walker and Tom Webb, from SMU Dedman School of Law!
