Second Annual South Texas College of Law Energy Law Negotiation Competition

South Texas College of Law hosted its second annual Energy Law Negotiation Competition on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, 2016. The competition provided students with an opportunity to develop their negotiation skills with fact patterns based on current issues in the field of energy law. Students specifically interested in pursuing a career in energy law also had a wonderful opportunity to network with experienced energy lawyers in Houston, the energy capital of the country. Every student competitor was judged by experts in the field. We were honored to welcome almost sixty judges from a variety of energy companies and law firms including but not limited to:

Energy Companies: Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Apache Corporation, BHP Billiton Petroleum, Cantera Energy, Chevron, EP Energy, Fieldwood Energy, Hess Corporation, Occidental Petroleum Corp., Shell, Southwest Energy, Swift Energy, Sulzer Chemtec, Talos Energy, Treadstone Energy Partners, ZTC Petro Investments

Law Firms: Baker Botts; Bibby; McWilliams & Kearney; Clennan, Hood & Bieber; Dupuis & Polozola; Godwin Lewis; Gray, Reed, and McGraw; Greenberg Traurig; Haynes and Boone (our official competition sponsor); Hogan Lovells; Jones Day; Jones Gill; Kirby, Mathews & Walrath; Kirkland & Ellis; Liskow & Lewis; Locke Lord; Reed Smith; Sadler Law Firm; Sanders Willyard; Steptoe & Johnson; Strong Pipkin Bissell & Ledyard; Vinson and Elkins

The competition doubled in size since its inaugural year in 2015. For the 2016 competition, we opened the competition to schools from across the country and were delighted to welcome 22 teams representing 13 national law schools including LSU, SMU, STCL, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Southern, University of Houston, St. Mary's University, University of Oklahoma, University of Wyoming, UC Hastings, University of Florida, and Tulane.

Please check back during fall of 2016 for more information on the 2017 competition. For additional information, please email Debra Berman at dberman@stcl.edu or call 713-646-2997.
