College Scholarships

South Texas College of Law Houston provided $3,157,747 in scholarships, grants, and awards to 56% of the student body during the 2015-2016 academic year. These tuition aids, which include those that are established by alumni, individuals, organizations, and foundations, are awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, or more specific criteria.

Upon receiving a scholarship, students are strongly encouraged to participate in the reporting process for donors. Within a month of the beginning of class, students will receive an e-mail explaining the process. All entering students are considered for merit scholarships based on their undergraduate performance and LSAT score. Please contact the Admissions Office at 713-646-1810 for more information on these scholarships:


 

TAX EXECUTIVES INSTITUTE TAX SCHOLARSHIP

CRITERIA:

  1. Must be interested in a career in taxation.
  2. Must be scheduled to graduate in December 2017 or later.
  3. Must have completed the introductory Federal Income Tax class.
  4. Must be currently enrolled in or have completed at least one advanced tax course.
  5. Must have a “B” average or greater in tax-related coursework and an overall “B” average or greater.
  6. Must be either: (a) a full-time student, or (b) a part-time student who works full time in a corporate tax capacity at a company in the greater Houston area.
  7. Demonstrate financial need.
  8. Must not have previously been awarded this scholarship.

AWARD DETAILS: $3,000

HOUSTON BAR ASSOCIATION – SECTION OF TAXATION

TAX FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 CRITERIA:

  1. Must be a 3L student in the spring of 2016.
  2. Must have a strong interest in a career in tax.
  3. Must have completed the introductory Federal Income Tax class.
  4. Must be enrolled in or have completed at least one advanced tax course.
  5. Scholarship will be awarded at the HBA Tax Section luncheon in either April or May 2017.

AWARD DETAILS: Stipend of $1,000

Application must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office by 5:30pm April 12, 2017

HOUSTON YOUNG LAWYERS ASSOCIATION

DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2016-2017

 The Houston Young Lawyers Association’s (HYLA) Diversity Committee is awarding “diversity scholarships” to students at each of the Houston-area law schools.

The Diversity Committee intends to award scholarships in amounts ranging from $500-$2,000. In awarding the scholarships, the Diversity Committee will consider the applicant’s response to the essay question, resume, demonstrated commitment to diversity, and other criteria such as academic performance.
