Newly Admitted Students Join STCL Houston Deans, Professors at “Coffee on the Corner”
Nearly 50 newly admitted South Texas College of Law Houston students gathered at the law school this week for “Coffee on the Corner” — an opportunity for the incoming 1Ls to meet the school’s administrators and professors and learn about their upcoming classes to begin this fall.
The new students interacted both with outgoing President and Dean Don Guter and incoming President and Dean Michael F. Barry, and learned from Professor Amanda Peters, chair of the Admissions Committee, who addressed attendees.
Other STCL Houston professors in attendance included Debra Berman, Richard Carlson, Derek Fincham, Maxine Goodman, Fran Ortiz, Jean Powers, Val Ricks, Gary Rosin, Cherie Taylor, John Worley, and Lisa Yarrow.
“As an experienced professional, I’ve been fortunate to have learned the greatest lessons directly from leaders in the healthcare industry,” said incoming student Barrett Blackmon, MBA, FACHE, regional vice president of Oncology Services for HCA’s Gulf Coast Division. “Similarly, I look forward to expanding my knowledge by learning from some of the most gifted professors, alumni, and students from South Texas College of Law Houston.”
The students were treated to gourmet coffee from Houston’s Grizzaffi Coffee while they also met with current STCL Houston students who answered their questions about the first semester of law school.
