Scholarship Opportunity-Association of Corporate Counsel Houston Chapter
November 6, 2017
An event every week that begins at 12:00am on Monday, repeating until November 13, 2017
The Association of Corporate Counsel Houston Chapter (ACC) intends to grant up to twelve (12) $4,000 scholarships to qualified students from the three Houston-area law schools. The scholarships will consist of one-time grants that will be awarded to the recipients only once in their law school years. The scholarships are intended to be, and should be, used by the law students for tuition and other expenses directly related to law school, otherwise the scholarship money will be taxable income to the students.
Students at your school are encouraged to apply for these scholarships. Applicants must be in their second or third year of law school in the fall of 2017. Additionally, the following criteria, listed in order of importance, will be evaluated by the selection committee:
- Enrollment at one of the Houston-area law schools in the Fall 2017 semester;
- Diverse status as a racial or ethnic minority;
- Academic accomplishment (i.e., official transcript reflecting the student’s calculated GPA and overall ranking in the top third of his or her class);
- Financial need (i.e., financial aid letter showing the student’s financial budget for the school year);
- Extra-curricular activities (e.g., pro bono); and
- Service to the law school.
If you are interested in applying for one of the scholarships, complete the application, which is available in your school’s financial aid office, and attach an essay that includes (i) an introductory paragraph about yourself, (ii) a paragraph discussing items (2) through (6) above, and ( iii) a paragraph about the importance of diversity in the legal profession. The essay should be limited to 500 words. To be considered your completed application package must include the application, essay, your résumé, a letter from your financial aid office, and your academic transcript through the spring semester 2015.
Please provide your completed application package to the Financial Aid Office, Suite 246 by 5:30 pm Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in order to be considered for one of these scholarships.
Scholarship recipients will be required to attend the ACC Diversity Reception which will be held during the 2018 spring semester, as well as participate in one of the ACC’s Pro Bono activities. The scholarships will be awarded during the 2017 fall semester.
