The Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation invites first and second year law students to apply for the DHLF Judicial Internship Program. Judges from Dallas area civil and criminal courts will be participating.

A scholarship devoted to creating a diverse and stimulating work environment. It is our goal to help encourage women and minorities to enter the practice of intellectual property law in Texas. This year, to help advance our goal, our firm will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a woman and/or minority law student interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property law. Applicants must be in good academic standing, and be eligible to sit for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Patent Bar.

For law students from the Eastern District of Texas. This scholarship is part of the Honorable T. John Ward American Inn of Court’s commitment to assisting aspiring law students from circumstances of need become lawyers of high ethics, civility, and professionalism.
Criteria:
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Franklin Jones, Jr. Memorial Scholarship review board based on the following criteria: Residence in the Eastern District of Texas, demonstrated financial need or hardship, commitment, qualities and actions toward ethics, civility, and professionalism, academic merit or other qualities showing a likelihood of law school success, written and/or oral communications skills, leadership qualities and community involvement, member of a historically under represented group in the practice of law (race, sex, ethnicity, disability, etc.) Law students and prospective law students from the Eastern District of Texas who are enrolled or have been accepted to an ABA accredited law school in the United States are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The goals of the State Bar of Texas Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section (“REPTL”) Student Writing Contest (“Contest”) are to encourage and reward law student writings on real property, probate, and trust law subjects of general and current interest. As part of this effort, REPTL will sponsor the Contest, which invites law school students to submit to REPTL original essays on a general or current topic dealing with real property, probate, or trust law. The Contest is designed to attract students to the real property, probate, and trust law fields, and to strongly encourage scholarship in these areas.

Entrants must submit an article on a current or general topic dealing with real property, probate, or trust law. “Real property, probate and trust law” is a broad category containing numerous practice disciplines. Without attempting to define the area precisely, the subject is intended to include matters within law school curricula in courses entitled: Property; Estate and Gift Tax; Wills and Decedents’ Estates; Real Estate Transactions; Real Estate Development; Environmental Law; Elder Law; Land Use Planning; Federal Taxation; Real Estate Finance; Employee Benefit Plans; Planning, Drafting and Negotiating Commercial Real Estate Transactions; Taxation and Regulation of Non-Profit Organizations; Business Succession Planning; Life Insurance and Other Insurance Products; Trusts and Trust Law; Wealth Management; Fiduciary Income Taxation; Estate Planning; and Probate and Estate Administration.
REPTL will interpret the scope of the subject broadly to ensure that the Contest affords the greatest degree of flexibility in writing on these subject areas. Entrants are encouraged to write on subjects of State of Texas interest. Entrants must submit their own original article. If any article is found not to be an original, it will be disqualified from the Contest. In addition, the entrant’s name, the article, and the evidence showing that it was not authored by the entrant may be turned over to the entrant’s law school and the appropriate Board of Law Examiners.

TYLA intends to award three scholarships, first place $5,000, second place $3,000, and third place $1,500 to one or more law students from the ABA-accredited law schools or ABA-provisionally approved law schools in Texas. The recipient must be attending one of these Texas law schools. The Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) began over 80 years ago as the Texas Junior Bar association. Growing from an initial membership of 200 lawyers, the organization now boasts over 27,000 members. Each attorney licensed in Texas who is age 36 or younger as of June 1, or who is within his or her initial 60-month licensing period before June 1, is a regular member of TYLA. No application or separate dues are required. TYLA has a steadfast commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. To that end,
TYLA’s objectives and goals for diversity are:
• to facilitate and encourage minorities to enter the legal profession;
• to promote increased participation by diverse lawyers in the activities, programs, and projects of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas; and
• to encourage all members of the Texas Young Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas to acknowledge the importance of diversity, to promote greater inclusion of diverse members of the profession, and to facilitate greater access to programs, services, and employment opportunities for diverse members of the profession. The Diversity Scholarship Program is one of the many TYLA sponsored projects designed to meet these objectives each year. A committee made up of TYLA Directors will review all applications and select the scholarship recipients based on the criteria described below.

To apply for the Weisblatt Law Firm Scholarship, applicants must submit a 750+ word essay on the following topic:
In today’s day and age, information (even sensitive information) about businesses can be found easier than ever before. Businesses often protect themselves from the release of sensitive information by requiring employees to enter into non-competition agreements. Should non-competes be enforced? What about the employee’s need for subsequent employment? How should courts strike this balance and what factors should they consider? Our attorneys will select three finalists from the applications submitted by the July deadline.
