Computer Purchasing Programs:
DISCLAIMER: Purchases made utilizing this program are between Dell or Apple and the purchaser. The College does not recommend or endorse Dell or Apple products. Dell has agreed to offer discounts up to 17%, depending on model and options. However, the College does not guarantee any prices or discounts offered by Dell through this program. The purchaser is encouraged to comparison shop other manufacturers and vendors. Apple offers discounted pricing for all students attending higher education institutions at its online "Apple Store for Education."
The College does not recommend any specific manufacturer or model. The following guidelines should be considered:
- A portable laptop weighs 6 pounds or less
- Built-in wireless connectivity with a 100/1000 ethernet card if you want to connect to the College network
- Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
- Any modern computer should be sufficient; however, consult the reseller for memory and disk specifications recommended for the chosen operating system and software.
* Other operating systems (Mac, Linux/Unix) may be suitable but the College Technology staff has little experience with these operating systems.
* Windows XP Home edition lacks the capability to connect to a corporate domain. If you want to connect your laptop directly into the school's network, you will need the XP Pro edition to be able to access your mapped server drives, and for students to print to the lab printers.
