Letter from the President
Dear Fellow Students,
As President of the Student Bar Association I am committed to advocating on behalf of the student body to enhance your experience at South Texas. We have a diverse Board of Governors established to make each student have his or her voice heard.
We meet regularly to manage the affairs of the STCL student body, to discuss important issues within our student body, and to provide a voice for the over forty organizations on campus.
In addition, the Student Bar Association heads many events around campus. We coordinate and host weekly social hours and monthly terrace parties. We also put together intramural games and encourage the students to create teams within their section or organizations. In past years the games included flag football, Frisbee golf, basketball, kickball, soccer, and ping-pong. In October we put together the Halloween Party, taking place on the 26th this year. At the end of the year we host the Barristers Ball, which allows the student body and faculty to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of the past year. This year it will be at the Hilton of the Americas on March 28th.
More importantly, we organize community service events during the year. We are continuing our tradition of the annual Triple Play Charity Softball Tournament. This co-ed tournament brings together teams from University of Houston Law Center, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, and various law firms in Houston benefitting a local charity. This year’s tournament will benefit Child Advocates. We also host an annual food drive and have in the past been the largest single donor to the Houston Food Bank. This year we are trying to break our record donation of $19,000 in cash and food donations. The SBA also coordinates networking events throughout the year with our extensive alumni.
I encourage all of you to get involved in activities on campus. It will truly enhance your experience in law school and make you a better advocate for your client one day. If you have any questions please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at (713) 646-1741. You can also stop by the SBA office any time in Room 400 (across from Joe Green Auditorium).
I look forward to meeting you all.
SBA President, 2013 – 2014
