Hispanic Law Students Association

The Hispanic Law Students Association (HLSA) was founded in 1984 to promote and assist in the educational needs and professional goals of Hispanic law students. HLSA's activities, include monthly meetings, speaker forums, community projects, fund raising for the HLSA scholarship program, and social gatherings with prominent practicing attorneys and guest speakers. HLSA also aids in the recruitment and orientation of first-year Hispanic students.

HLSA has been recognized by the Student Bar Association at South Texas College of Law (STCL) as the Student Association of the Year in 1999, 1997, and 1996.  The dedication of its members to student development and involvement in the community has represented STCL in an exemplary fashion.  HLSA members have also participated and placed in intramural moot court and mock trial competitions.  

HLSA members have represented STCL in national moot court competitions including the Annual Hispanic National Bar Association Moot Court Competitions.  

HLSA has also represented STCL in various professional and civic organizations including:  the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston, Hispanic Bar Association of Houston, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Ripley House.
