STCL Houston Alumni and Friends Donate More Than $160,000 on Give Day 2020, Breaking Law School Record
Loyal STCL Houston alumni and friends this week put their generosity and compassion on full display as they set a new fundraising record for Give Day at Houston’s oldest law school.
In total, more than 530 donors gave over $160,000 to the law school in 24 hours for Give Day 2020.
This record-breaking total was fueled in large part by challenges from alumni Don D. Jordan ’69; Chad Parker ’92 and his wife, Rebecca; and Ryan Haun ’06.
Jordan — head of Jordan Capital Management and former chairman of the board of Reliant Energy, Inc. — committed to pledging $60,000 if 500 donors contributed to this year’s Give Day on Nov. 17.
Parker, a personal injury trial lawyer from Tyler, Texas, agreed to match donations — up to $15,000 — to the J. Chad Parker ’92 and Rebecca Parker Annual Scholarship benefiting African-American students.
And Haun, a partner at Haun | Mena in Houston, agreed to match — up to $5,000 — funds raised for the David V. Wilson Jr. ’93 Endowed Scholarship benefiting South Texas Advocacy students.
South Texas supporters surpassed each of these challenges to ensure essential support for students and programs.
Thank you to every donor who helped make this year’s Give Day a great success! Despite the unprecedented last nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Texas family more than proved their fidelity and support of the law school and its hardworking students.
