STCL Houston Admissions Office to Host Virtual Gatherings with Recently Admitted 1Ls as Part of New Welcome Series
As the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic persist, South Texas College of Law Houston is working overtime to ensure its new 1L students remain engaged and excited about beginning law school this fall.
To create an interactive environment, Assistant Dean Alicia Cramer and her team in the Admissions office have planned a series of five virtual events as part of the school’s new Welcome Series. Held each Friday at 3 p.m. from June 19 to July 24 (with a break July 3 for the Independence Day holiday), STCL Houston will host a variety of events to help new students understand both the day-to-day expectations and academic rigors of law school.
The first of these events, conducted June 19, was a virtual “Coffee Talk” where students had the opportunity to join breakout “Zoom rooms,” and interact with their 1L professors and mingle with their fellow classmates in a smaller setting. Upcoming virtual events will focus on a particular topic, such as bar preparation or mindfulness for law students, and will include a mock class and mixer for all 1L sections.
“We are thrilled with the caliber and character of our new 1L students and are eager to welcome them into the South Texas College of Law Houston family,” said Alicia Cramer, assistant dean of Admissions at the law school. “STCL Houston faculty and staff have been working hard to ensure these students’ transition to law school is a smooth one, and — until we can officially greet them on campus — we’re delighted to extend our welcoming community to them via virtual classroom.”
