Spotlight: The Fred Parks Library Welcomes New Librarian

         We are incredibly pleased to spotlight Adrienne C. Cobb, our new Publications and Reference Librarian, who brings many attributes to the table. She earned her B.A. in History from Pomona College, 1999 and her J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School, 2002. She completed her MLIS with a certificate in law librarianship in 2003 from the University of Washington. Additionally, Adrienne's extensive computer and instructional background, developed during her employment at University of Houston, enabled her, among many accomplishments, to organize a Brown Bag Lunch series, create and publish several newsletters and information lists as well as serve as liaison to five law journals and at least 12 faculty members.             
         Here at South Texas, Adrienne wears many hats. She writes, edits and coordinates the library’s print and digital publications including Footnotes (this, her inaugural editorial issue), Web pages and library guides. She manages our Government Documents collection and oversees our compliance with all federal regulations, including record keeping, statistics, processing, shelving, public access and document selection. Adrienne serves on our Acquisitions Committee and also provides legal reference to all patrons.
          In her life away from South Texas Adrienne is “obsessed, and quite active with politics...but for diplomatic purposes will refrain from stating which way I lean.” However, she revealed she was a former chair of the Houston branch of Drinking Liberally, a group with liberal leanings who meets weekly to discuss politics. Hobbies include “sewing, reading, blogging, going to movies, book collecting, and buying long, dangly earrings.” Pets includes two gerbils: Pinko and Lefty, a bow to her political interests!
          We are thrilled to welcome Adrienne into our Library family and hope you find a few free minutes to meet her either at the Reference Desk or in the Government Documents area on our first floor.
