* Jessica R. Alexander, Reference Librarian, welcomed her second grandchild, Quentin Elwood Latchett, on December 7 at 11:41 p.m. Quentin weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. His parents are Woody and Kate Latchett of Los Angeles, California. Woody is Jessica's son.

* Mark W. Lambert, Special Collections & Government Documents Librarian, was named the part-time Archives Consultant for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals library system. Mark will organize the history of the courts of the Fifth Circuit, concentrating on the nine district courts within the circuit, including the Southern District of Texas. He will develop an archival program, providing for courthouse displays and educational opportunities through lectures and writing. A long-term goal of the position is to facilitate the creation of a Fifth Circuit Historical Society.

* Mark Lambert recently served as chair of the Archives Week Committee for the Archivists of the Houston Area (AHA!), which culminated in events held in Houston from October 3-9, 2004, including a Family History Preservation Fair at the Houston Public Library.

* "Don't Botch the History Lesson," a letter to the editor by Mark Lambert, was published in the October, 2004, issue of the A.B.A. Journal, on pp. 14-6. The letter concerned preservation of law firm histories.
