South Texas College of Law Wins National Admiralty Competition
March 7, 2011—Students from South Texas College of Law captured first place in the national Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition. The team of Katy Jo Muncie, Ian McCarthy, and Andrew Bender defeated the University of Houston team in the final round of the competition and were awarded the best written brief honors. The individual award of best advocate in the final round went to Katy Jo Muncie. The team briefed and argued a hypothetical case dealing with the limits on damages that can be paid offshore workers injured on the job. The students were coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece, Robert Galloway ’91, Jim Barnish ’10, and Justin Jenson ’09. This is the 108th national advocacy title earned by students at South Texas College of Law.
