South Texas Students Win State Advocacy Title
June 28, 2005
For the third year in a row, a team of students from South Texas College of Law captured the top spot at the State Bar of Texas' Moot Court Competition. The competition, sponsored by the Texas Young Lawyers Association, was held in conjunction with the State Bar of Texas' Annual Meeting in Dallas, with the final round judged by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The team of Angela Hamilton, David Harris and Karl Seelbach bested St. Mary's School of Law in the championship round. The best written brief award was also presented to the South Texas team, and Harris and Hamilton were named second and third best oralists, respectively. The team argued a case addressing issues of hearsay admissibility and illegal search and seizure.
Because this is the third year in a row South Texas has won the state title, the law school gets to retire, or keep, the traveling trophy. This is the second State Bar of Texas trophy to remain at South Texas, the only school to win three times consecutively on two different occasions. The winning team was coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece, and alumni Rob Galloway of Thompson & Knight L.L.P., Inger Hampton of the Harris County District Attorneys Office, and Tony Taft of Faubus & Taft, L.L.P.
