October 31, 2005–Student advocates from South Texas College of Law captured first place at the 8th Annual State Bar of Texas Administrative and Public Law Moot Court Competition in Austin over the weekend. The team of Kathy Dawson, Ryan Haun and Catina Haynes defeated students from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in the final round of competition. The student teams from Texas law schools prepared and argued a fictional case and issues surrounding a doctor's battle to regain his medical license. The South Texas team was declared the competition winner and also earned the best written legal brief award. The team was coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece; Kevin Cain '99, of Martin, Disiere, Jefferson & Wisdom; Wade Vandiver '02, of Eggleston & Briscoe; Wendy Wedegartner '02, of Chamberlain, Hdrlicka, White, Williams & Martin; and David Wilson '93, of Hays McConn Rice & Pickering.
