South Texas Launches Dean Search
March 26, 2008—South Texas College of Law President and Dean James J. Alfini will return to teaching following the 2008-09 academic school year. Alfini became Dean at South Texas in 2003 and announced to the Board of Directors his plans to step down at their meeting this week. Alfini calls his time as dean at South Texas “the most rewarding years of my life.” Alfini, 64, plans to teach and write as a member of the South Texas faculty following his deanship.
The South Texas Board of Directors will establish a dean search committee to work this coming year to find a replacement for the well-liked and widely respected Alfini. “Not only is he an excellent administrator and teacher, he has an outstanding ability to communicate with the students, faculty, staff and the board,” says board chairman Don Jordan. “He provided great leadership with the strategic plan we had in place for the past five years, which sets the foundation for continued growth for school. I’m pleased he will continue to stay at South Texas to teach and provide input into growth and development of the school.” Alfini is credited with promoting faculty scholarship to a new level nationally, the implementation of an integrated database that has increased productivity and student service, adding outstanding new professors to the faculty, and overseeing efforts that successfully raised the college’s bar passage rates.
