Oct.15, 2013 –HOUSTON – South Texas College of Law-Houston is pleased to announce that President and Dean Donald J. Guter has signed a five-year extension of his contract with the law school.
“The Board is delighted that Dean Guter will continue to lead South Texas for years to come. This is a dynamic time for the law school, and we are very fortunate to have a person of Dean Guter’s caliber and stature at the top,” said South Texas Board Chairman Mike Hays.
“Dean Guter already has accomplished so much at South Texas, and the Board, faculty, and staff are looking forward to working with him to further the mission of the law school and enhance its stellar reputation of teaching, scholarship, and service,” Chairman Hays said.
Dean Guter joined South Texas in 2009 after a nationwide search, leaving the faculty of Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, where he also served as dean from 2005 through 2008.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to remain at South Texas, and I am grateful to the Board for having confidence in my administration. Together, our talented and knowledgeable faculty and staff are focused on providing students with a great education and helping them begin rewarding and successful careers in the law,” Dean Guter said. “I also look forward to furthering the law school’s legacy of service to the community through the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics, student organizations and other avenues.
“This is an exciting time for South Texas. We are celebrating our 90th birthday, we were recently named by the National Jurist as a ‘best value,’ private law school, we are included in the Princeton’s Review’s 2014 ‘Best Law Schools,’ and our advocacy program remains the nation’s best,” Dean Guter said. “We have been designated a ‘community of respect’ and a ‘great college to work for,’ and those are perhaps our most important assets.
“We also have the support of a strong alumni community and are fortunate to be strategically located in downtown Houston, the heart of one of the largest legal and international business communities in the country and home to many accomplished South Texas graduates,” Dean Guter said. “It all adds up to an incredible, stimulating environment at South Texas. I love coming to work every day.”
Founded in 1923, South Texas is Houston’s largest and oldest law school. It currently enrolls 1,198 full- and part-time students and has some 13,000 living alumni.
