South Texas College of Law Professors Granted Tenure
  March 29, 2013—The South Texas College of Law Board of Directors granted tenure to Professors Matthew Festa and Sharon Finegan. “We were so very fortunate to have Professor Matt Festa and Professor Sharon Finegan join the faculty of STCL in 2007,” says South Texas President and Dean Donald Guter. “They are great colleagues and although they specialize in different areas of our curriculum, they are very similar in their care and compassion for our students. They both excel in their teaching, service, and scholarship, so the recommendation of the faculty to offer them tenure and the approval of that recommendation by our full Board of Directors were seamless decisions. We are proud of them and look forward to many years of continued outstanding performance from them in the service of the college, our students, and the legal community.”
Festa teaches property law, land use, and state and local government law. His expertise also includes legal history, national security law, energy and environmental law, and trusts and estates. He edits the Land Use Prof Blog and has recently published articles on land use, zoning, and the role of history in the law. He is a judge advocate in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he is assigned as an adjunct professor at The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. Festa earned his law degree at Vanderbilt University School of Law.
Finegan teaches legal research and writing, Texas criminal procedure, and deposition skills at South Texas, and taught a course on counter terrorism in England. Her expertise also includes constitutional law and procedural law. She regularly co-authors the U.S. Supreme Court updates for the State Bar of Texas’ Appellate Advocate publication and has published several articles on criminal procedure. Finegan earned her law degree at American University Washington College of Law and her LL.M at Columbia Law School.
Also promoted from assistant to associate professor are Amanda Cooley, Derek Fincham, and
Scott Rempell.
