South Texas College of Law board welcomes new members December 14, 2012—The South Texas College of Law directors elected Houston attorney Randall O. Sorrels and Tampa Bay, Florida attorney Frank de la Grana to the board. Both attorneys are South Texas graduates, Sorrels in 1987 and de la Grana in 1977, who’ve demonstrated a strong devotion to the college. "Both of these distinguished graduates have demonstrated a strong devotion to the college. I look forward to working with them to promote and advance their law school,” says South Texas President and Dean Donald J. Guter. “We are honored they are willing to devote their time and efforts to the college.” Other changes to the board include the addition of Alumni Association President Kim Ogg, class of 1986, who serves on the college’s board during her tenure. Chairman Emeritus, Harry P. Hutchens, Jr., class of 1956, retired from the board after serving 38 years including six years as chairman. Both Michael J. Echevarria, class of 1983, and Steven R. Frank de la Grana is a criminal defense attorney in Tampa practicing in both state and federal court. He attended South Texas after graduating from Spring Hill College. De la Grana has been in private practice since 1980 following several years as a prosecutor in Tampa. He is actively involved in the Tampa community as well as the owner of two successful restaurants there.
Randall O. Sorrels is a partner at Houston’s Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto and Friend. His generous gift this fall provided for expansion and support of the college’s clinical facilities now named the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics. He is a double board certified plaintiffs’ lawyer specializing in personal injury and business litigation, has served as the president of the Houston Bar Association, and has long been involved in securing access to legal services for the poor.
