November 12, 2007— A team of students from South Texas College of Law captured first place at the 16th Annual Health Law Moot Court Competition at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. The students defeated Seton Hall University School of Law in the final round of the competition, which drew thirty teams from across the nation. This is South Texas’ 97th national advocacy title. The winning team consists of Natalie Barletta, Kaylyn Betts, and Ben Williams. The law students argued a mock case that included first amendment and freedom of religion issues in a situation where a pharmacist refused to dispense the so-called morning-after pill. The student’s written brief was named second best of the competition. The team was coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece, Distinguished Lecturer Rob Galloway ’91, Tiffany Herrera ’07, Charles Hessel ’04, and Joshua Reiss'07.
