February 19, 2007–Students from South Texas College of Law were crowned champions at the National Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition at William & Mary School of Law in Virginia. This is the 95th national title for the college, recognized as a national leader for the teaching of trial advocacy skills. The students prepared and argued a case involving gay marriage rights and state recognition before a panel of federal and state judges. The final round, ironically, came down to the two South Texas teams battling it out for the win. The winning team consists of Courtney Carlson, Alex Horton, and Jessica Sykora, all second year law students. The team was coached by Associate Dean T. Gerald Treece and attorneys Rob Galloway ’91 and Paige Woodard ’05. In addition to winning the tournament, the team’s written brief was named the best of the competition.
