2009 Distinguished Alumnus

July 21, 2009—The South Texas College of Law Alumni Association honors Randy R Howry ’85 as the 2009 Distinguished Alumnus. The Alumni Association honors one graduate each year for their service to the college, the profession, and the community. Howry is a partner in the Austin litigation firm of HowryBreen LLP where he handles commercial and employment litigation, insurance and medical malpractice cases, and wrongful death, wills and trust, and real estate litigation. Howry serves on the South Texas College of Law Alumni Association Board of Directors and is a director of the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is the president-elect of the West Austin Youth Association, and is a former president of the Austin Bar Association.

Howry will be the featured speaker at the Alumni Association’s Annual Meeting  held on October 5. The luncheon will also honor attorney Peggy Montgomery ’80 of ExxonMobil Corporation as this year’s recipient of the Public Service Award. Montgomery is chair of ExxonMobil’s Pro Bono Committee and the Houston Bar Association’s Consumer Task Force. She also serves as a director of the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and handles several cases a year. She was honored by the Supreme Court of Texas’ Access to Justice Commission in June with the Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Award.
