Campus Safety Update- December 2016

The Safety and Security department continually reevaluates security measures, plans, and strategies to ensure the safety of all members of the law school community. In partnership with Property Services, the team is making some upgrades to campus facilities over the next few months, to include:

  • Upgrading lighting in all parking lots to use brighter, more energy-efficient LED fixtures
  • Revamping lighting around the building’s perimeter, including replacing frosted lamps with clear globes and adding LED lighting.
  • Replacing parking lot barrier gate arms with full gates and adding pedestrian gates with badge access to fully secure each parking lot. (Student lots to be completed over winter break. Faculty lots to be completed in early 2017.)

In addition, all law school employees will be invited to complete an active shooter response training program called ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) early next year. ALICE training addresses the circumstances and considerations specific institutions of higher education and helps participants effectively prepare for a potential crisis. Information about these trainings will be distributed soon.
