Contracts I(d), Fall 2002
I am available in Room 753; by e-mail at ricks@stcl.edu ; and by phone at (713) 646-2944. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Email is especially efficient for both of us because it can be answered at leisure and stored easily until you really need it.
Val D. Ricks, The Story of Contract Law (2001); Burton & Eisenberg, Contract Law: Selected Source Materials (2002 ed.).
Helpful hornbooks (not required) include Calamari & Perillo, Contracts (4th ed., West Group 1998); E. Allan Farnsworth, Contracts (3d ed., Little, Brown 1999).
You are allowed to miss only 5 class sessions. If you miss 6, school policy requires me to drop you from the course. If you are not in the room when class starts or do not remain in the room throughout the class period, you may be considered absent.
To fulfill the participation requirement for this class, you must come prepared to class, with assigned cases briefed, ready to recite each and to answer the questions following the entries in your casebook. I also expect you freely to ask questions in class when you wish for clarification.
Assignments are listed below. The page numbers in each assignment are from your casebook. So that you will be able to use this list with the web-published casebook, the last item in the reading is stated in parentheses after the final page number. You are to read up to and including the item listed in parentheses. Each assignment may be changed by prior announcement in class. I will sometimes hand out in class supplemental materials that I will expect you to study as if they were part of the casebook, in addition to those listed. If your casebook refers you to an authority in your statutory supplement book, please study the supplement book authority and comments to it in preparation for class.
