CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION
2014 Scheduled Live Courses

Just Ethics Series
Second Friday of every month
Emilie Slohm Room
12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.

Intellectual Property (IP) law is deceptively complex. While IP law is exceedingly rules based, those rules often vary depending on the type of IP protection that is sought. During this interactive session of Just Ethics, Kevin M. Jones will first provide an overview of the basics of IP law – in plain English, and inform you of recent changes in the laws of Patenting (America Invents Act) and current legislation to curb Patent Trolling Actions. This discussion is directed toward attorneys who have an occasional IP client but do not want to dive too deeply into "all that geeky law." He will then elaborate on the most common "traps" that await the non-IP attorney who attempts to practice in this area with little or no experience in IP law – and what that non-IP attorney really needs to know to avoid malpractice while advising their clients.
