Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the 3L Class Gift?

The 3L Class Gift is a collective contribution made by a graduating 3L class. The Class Gift Committee helps coordinate the gift-giving program.

Why does the school need our contributions?

Contributions directly enhance the educational mission of the College through scholarships, student awards, and co-curricular programs like Advocacy or Law Review.  Contributions make the difference between a good law school and a great one.

How can I make my contribution?

The easiest way to contribute is online. You may make a one-time gift or set up a recurring gift, so automatic monthly payments will be made via credit card.  The online gift form can be accessed by clicking here.

You may also give your gift to a committee member, who will deliver it to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.  A gift envelope, which may be obtained from a committee member, offers you the option of including a check, cash, or your credit card information.

Why does participation in the 3L Class Gift Program matter?

Your participation in the 3L Class Gift Program matters because it shows the strength of support of your graduating class.  Your gift will impact STCL's overall alumni participation rate – one of the primary ways alumni satisfaction and support at law schools is evaluated. By making a gift to the 3L Class Gift Program, you are committing to make a difference for your law school after you graduate.

How does alumni participation benefit me?

When you make gifts to the law school you increase the value of your law degree by raising the alumni participation rate. "Participation" is the percentage of STCL alumni who make a gift in any amount to the law school each year. Participation is not just a dry statistic – it is one of the primary ways in which alumni support is measured. Our participation rate is viewed as a vote of alumni satisfaction and is often considered by corporations and foundations when directing gifts to STCL. As an alumnus, you also benefit as STCL continues to excel, provides an outstanding legal education, and attracts the best and brightest students. Your gift demonstrates the strength and loyalty of STCL alumni.

What is the Class Gift Campaign?

The Class Gift Campaign is the organized effort from March 1 to May 1 to collect a majority of the class gifts. There are a number of ways for you to give:

  • March 25 – April 5: Stop by the Class Gift table located on the first floor to make your gift.
  • April 11: Join your classmates and members of the Young Alumni Group (alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years) at a special happy hour. Click here for details.
  • May 1: Faculty and administration will be on-hand to serve up a spaghetti dinner to students with all proceeds benefiting the Class Gift fund. To purchase tickets, click here.

Where should I direct my gift?

Give to what matters most to you.  Your gift will be your voice for your class and will shape the future of the programs that enriched your life as a student. Here are some designation ideas:

Advocacy Program

Student Organizations (Public Interest Law Society, Animal Law Society, etc.)

Law Review

Class Gift scholarship fund (LEAD Fund)

What is the deadline for making a gift?

The fiscal year ends August 31, but most 3L donors give prior to graduation in order to have their gift included in the check presented to Dean Guter at commencement.

How much should I give?

Since participation each year is the ultimate goal, all gifts matter. All donors to the Class Gift will receive a South Texas College of Law lapel pin.  Donors who give at least $100 will be listed with other young alumni as part of the Young Alumni Leadership Circle on the Partners in Excellence Donor Wall.
