OUR PROGRAMS

Advocacy

Mock trial and moot court competitions give law students a chance to demonstrate their command of trial lawyering, also known as advocacy. The Advocacy Program at STCL Houston is one of only three programs in the nation consistently ranked in the top ten by U.S. News & World Report. Our student competitors have won 130 national championships. No other law school in the U.S. has won half as many.

Frank Evans Center for Conflict Resolution

Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is gradually replacing courtroom litigation as the preferred approach in civil disputes. The Frank Evans Center is at the forefront of this trend, preparing students to represent clients with the latest ADR methods — mediation, negotiation, and arbitration.

Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics

Through our on-site Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics, students learn real-world skills in a wide range of practice areas, from tax law to asylum and human trafficking cases. Each year, the clinics provide more than $3 million worth of free, critical legal services to traditionally underrepresented clients.

Transactional Practice Center

Training law students to become business lawyers, the Transactional Practice Center is becoming increasingly popular with students and the external legal community. The Center offers specialized coursework including a capstone, a variety of business simulation exercises, and an examination of the complexities of professional ethics. The Center offers a Certificate Program to allow students to develop a transactional practice concentration.

Harry L. Reed Oil & Gas Law Institute

The Harry L. Reed Oil & Gas Law Institute trains students in transactional, title, and regulatory law related to the petroleum industry. Students develop the practical skills required to respond to the changing demands of energy companies and law firms. The Oil & Gas Law Institute is currently developing a capstone project as part of a formal certification program for interested students.

Career Resource Center

The CRC is the point of convergence for students, alumni, and employers. The center provides development programs, individual counseling, and coaching to help students explore career options and manage a successful job search. For employers, the CRC provides a platform for recruiting, posting available jobs, and coordinating interviews.
