Frequently Asked Questions
- Does South Texas College of Law grant admissions deferrals? No, STCL does not grant admission deferrals. You will be required to reapply for subsequent semesters.
- Do I need to send in all of my official transcripts? Our office will need official transcripts only from degree granting institutions. LSDAS provides only copies to the law school.
- What happens if I miss my seat deposit deadline? If the seat deposit deadline has passed, you will need to contact the admissions office to see if your seat is still available. The Admissions Office will work with you as much as possible, but cannot guarantee you a seat in the incoming class.
- Does STCL have a laptop computer requirement? No, there is no laptop requirement.
- Do I get free internet access as a student? During orientation you will be instructed on how to get free internet access through our server. You will also receive a South Texas email account.
- When should I apply for financial aid? The deadlines for financial aid are May 1st for the fall semester, and October 1st for the spring semester. There is flexibility for new students, however.
- Who do I contact to find out if my financial aid application is complete? You may contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 713-646-1820.

How do I find out if I received a scholarship? As an entering student, STCL offers the merit scholarships.
These scholarship are based solely on LSAT and undergraduate academic performance. Every admitted student is considered for these scholarships. You will be notified by mail if you are a scholarship recipient.

What scholarships do I qualify for? As an entering student, STCL only offers the merit scholarships. After your first year, you will be able to apply for scholarships based on merit, diversity, and need.

Are work study opportunities available at STCL? Yes, you can be a student worker at STCL. For more information, please contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 713-646-1820.

What if I forgot to disclose criminal history in my application? If criminal/academic/disciplinary information was excluded, you must contact the Office of Admissions at 713-646-1810.
- As an incoming student, how do I pay for my course books? Books must be paid for, in full, by the individual student from their own sources at the time of purchase.
- How can I get a locker for the upcoming semester? Lockers are available for rent for all currently enrolled students. New Students may seek them by signing up on the Locker Wait List (http://www.stcl.edu/students/waitlist.htm ). Lockers are provided based on availability. Lockers may be jointly rented or shared by two or more students. All users must sign a locker agreement and are jointly and individually responsible for their locker. The cost to rent a locker is $5 for the summer session and $10 each for the spring and fall semesters.
