What type of legal jobs can I expect to secure while still a student?

Being an urban law school, located in downtown Houston, surrounded by hundreds of law offices and legal service providers, South Texas College of Law offers our students enormous opportunities to gain legal experience while in law school, including volunteer experience, internship and externships (course credit), formalized summer clerkships, law clerking positions, and summer abroad programs.

What can I be doing now to prepare for jobs in law school and after?

The best thing any student can do before law school is to talk to as many attorneys as possible. Information about the legal profession is an important part of making appropriate career decisions. Most students come to law school with preconceived notions about the legal market and about various areas of practice. Assumptions, which are often brought into law school, must be researched to better understand and appreciate the full range of opportunities made possible by a legal education.

We are a regional law school with a national reputation for trial advocacy. Does it make our students more competitive and more marketable? The answer is Yes.
