What do you teach?
I teach legal research and writing, the first year course that teaches students the skills lawyer use daily in practice: legal research, writing, and legal analysis.
Why do you teach?
I love teaching first year law students for two reasons: first, they’re generally eager to learn, respectful, interesting, and very smart. Secondly, I enjoy teaching first year students because many people mentored me during my time as a new lawyer, and, by teaching, I feel I’m giving back to the legal community.
What did you do before teaching at South Texas?
I was a partner at a small commercial litigation firm in Houston.
What’s your best advice to incoming students?
Don’t go it alone! Rely on support form family and friends during your first year. Also, treat law school as a job. Make a work schedule and stick to it, including time for breaks. Finally, don’t worry about what other people are doing or seem to know. Focus on what you need to do to get the job done.
What’s the best thing about South Texas?
My favorite thing about South Texas is my students. I’m excited and proud to know they are the next generation of lawyers.
