What did you do before law school?
I was a high school English teacher for two years before coming to law school. I did an internet search of all Texas law schools and South Texas was the one I chose.

What will you do with your law degree?
I plan to return to the Rio Grande Valley and start my own law practice focusing on criminal law, family law, and personal injury cases.

What’s your best advice for first year students?
Make sure you go to all your classes and take your own notes. Do not rely on commercial outlines, other people’s notes, and supplements too much.

What’s the best thing about South Texas?
The best thing about South Texas has to be the family environment amongst the students and faculty. When I walk into the financial aid or admissions offices, they know me by my first name not by a social security number.

Who’s your favorite professor?
Professor Mark Steiner is an old school-type teacher. He has random recitation, doesn’t allow anyone to come in late, and makes us stand up whenever we speak. He expects us to be extremely prepared for class, but he was straight forward with the material, prepared us very well for the final, and the final was well representative of the class material.

Where’s your favorite study spot at South Texas?
My favorite spot is the 1st floor of the library–the ultra quiet section–also referred to as “the dungeon” by us students.
